MCSB & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

MCSB acknowledges the importance of adhering to a roadmap of shipping and maritime compliance provided by the authority of Malaysia in all domestic and international activities in Malaysian waters. We value and infer up-to-date information to build a working SOP. It helps to guide the processes we run at MCSB internally and externally.

At the internal level, our stringent HSE policy, Standard Operation Procedure (SOP), and the wealth of references at our office library indicate our ironclad dedication towards meeting the highest level of compliance. All these come with room for adaptation and reinforcement for future improvement. Whereas, externally, as a rule-abiding maritime and shipping entity, it allows us to observe fruition from creating a good relationship between MCSB and the governmental and private sectors.

We work closely with every stakeholder. Over time, we have built a good rapport with the Marine Department (Jabatan Laut Malaysia), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Department of Fisheries (Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia), port authorities, the Department of Environment (matters which pertain to oil spill management and pollution), and so with every other state and district levels authority with respective jurisdiction.

The key in navigating around the risks within the industry is by building a strong partnership with the governmental and private sectors. This partnership helps to combat deceptive shipping and maritime practices effectively. It stops disturbances from hurting the business part of the industry and from challenging the territorial sovereignity, other than potentially defeating every effort we have curated in moving towards a holistic maritime policy.

Unlawful activities within the territorial waters such as illegal anchoring, trespassing, illicit transaction, and piracy have become the common challenges, but at this point, these illegal activities get to be monitored, controlled, and stopped with regulatory compliance by all sectors involved. Compliance gives birth to shared knowledge, and with knowledge comes technological advancement that helps to systemise every monitoring endeavour that will eventually optimise the help for maritime industry to flourish.

We understand that the need to reach such affinity across sectors will help us to gain and improve our value, skills, and experience in avoiding hazards and threats, running investigations, enforcing corresponding actions, and in giving counsel to our clients on the aspect of law from non-compliance incidences.

A holistic approach to policy and regulatory compliance will always be the way to go. We take an active role in being part of the synergy of the maritime and shipping industry, which involves port control authorities, industry associations, regional and global commodity trading, supplier activities, brokering, and environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. Safety, Security, and Environment are the three codyfying factors we observe in every process at MCSB, onshore and offshore.
